Thanks all for the suggestions.  A hard reset and full restore from
backup (a la Backup Man) seems to have made it a lot more stable and
responsive.  I noticed that available RAM shot up from 32.1 MB to 32.7
MB, so maybe that 600K "blob" was the culprit.

Anyway, thanks again...this list/community is priceless...
