My stepson has been using sprint service for years here near Rochester NY - 
actually about 30 miles from Rochester in the fingerlakes region.  He has had 
no problems.  I have an iphone which I moved to 5 months back and love it.  My 
stepson wanted to stay with sprint so he opted for an HTC.  He only had cell 
phones previous to this purchase.  He is enamored of it!!!  Without any 
smartphone experience, he has found the phone easy to use with easy syncing to 
his Windows computer.  He has downloaded a lot of apps and is having great fun. 
 when I looked at his HTC I didn't like the layout very much. I didn't work 
with it much to compare it to the iphone so I can't advise you there.

     He put a new Samsung Android in my hand, all fired up and ready to 
go. Except the battery was about shot. And it was ugly, for my taste. It 
reminded me of diamond plate on a Jeep, which is great on a Jeep, but on 
a phone? 
     Then he handed me a HTC Hero, which is one cool looking phone. 
Unfortunately, it was sold, won't be any more in for a few days. No 
slider keyboard, all touch screen, including keyboard. No speed dial app 
but I could clutter the desktop with icons to favorites. Might be worth 
a try. 
     As i talk to some folks around here, non-Sprinters all, they told 
of bad experiences with Sprint. Dropped calls, poor customer service. 
But no substantial complaints. The sales guy showed me a map, told me 
about all the new towers, and pointed out Sprint uses Verizon towers 
where there are no Spring towers. 
     He also promised to save me a bunch of money, but I'll have to 
take my AT&T bill in to get him to prove that. 

Then went online to get my AT&T bill and download the xls of my call 
details and couldn't find it (they moved it) so I opened a chat and got 
a guy who said he had to look at my account to see what I was seeing, 
then said he was unfamiliar with the spreadsheet download, then found 
the pdf download and decided the xls had been removed (not probably 
removed but uniformly -- is word -- removed). After we closed the 
session, I accidentally stumbled upon, and downloaded, the xls he said 
had been removed after saying he didn't know anything about it. 
     So much for customer service. 

Now then, most folks came to this forum because of their Treos, which 
means Palm, which naturally slides into Pre, which until next week means 
Sprint. 
     Still -- how's service with Sprint? And I guess I'll search out 
some comparatives Pre vs Hero. 

I don't guess there's a question here, just relating an experience, but 
wondering, a little, about other folks' experiences; i.e. is the 
Pre/Spring a super device/service because it was out first and 
exclusively? Or is customer service pretty much a wash and the Pre is 
better because it was first and few on here have tried Android.
