Turning them off, installing the Palm update, and turning them on,
especially selectively, does not sound as painful as
uninstalling/reinstalling them. At any rate, I don't know how many I
would install.
I am at a turning point right now. The Pre is super cool except in
one place that's pretty much a deal breaker, and a couple of place that
sort of reinforce the issue.
The d/b is the keyboard. My thumbs just don't get along with it
for more than short stuff. It's fine for adding a contact, entering a
search or URL, even for a short text message. But it doesn't work for
longer stuff. My thumbs and the bottom of the display are in constant
battle. The rest of the keyboard is OK. Not as nice as the Treo Pro, but
OK. But the thumb battle -- as I've mentioned previously, I use Evernote
as a pseudo word processor. I've been known to file whole stories from
my several Treos, and when EN came along, I about threw a party.
The other problem, though admittedly a lot lower on the pain list,
is the camera. Zoom may be coming, and video probably is coming, so, if
not for the keyboard, I could just wait it out.
So my choice is go through the hoops to install the virtual
keyboard, or try the HTC Hero. I'm leaning toward the latter, if for no
other reason than to say I tried it and know why I didn't stay with it.
I was one of the weird ones who actually liked the iPhone
keyboard. It was iPhone's inability to sync edited notes, even notes
that were part of contacts and events, that broke that deal.
WinMob's unreliability with ActiveSync (plus my desire for the
less expensive Sprint service) is giving me an op to try the Pre/Hero
offerings.
Decisions, decisions. But it really all comes down to that
keyboard thing. Cause, man, other'n that, I love the Pre.
