This happens with all mobile devices. When hundreds of thousands or millions of relatively inexpensive devices sell, some of them will fail outright, and some pickier people will return devices for smaller defects. While it's unlikely that one person will have two defective devices in a row, it's certainly mathematically possible, if rare. I've seen multiple failures of Blackberry, WinMob, Treo and now Pre devices.
