I don't know about the refund part, and have occasionally wondered. Gone
seems to be the shareware days, when you tried it and then bought it.
For the most part, the lists seem to be either free or pay.
That's the bad news. Good news is if you accidentally lose your
apps, Palm still has them. When I was going through some problems and
did a back to basics re-activation, we created a new profile and
everything disappeared - and was gone forever.
Then we figured out the problem (don't use numbers in a contact's
name field) and re-activated the phone using the old profile, and all my
apps, including ones I'd added and the credit card I used to pay for
them, reappeared.
