Hey Don, I haven't noticed the battery going down really fast with the new patch. Then again, in the past (without the patch), sometimes the phone stays on for 20 or more hours without being plugged in, while other days it will go down by 50% in just a few hours. I haven't figured out exactly what makes it go down so quickly, but I have a feeling part of it is reception. I'm in an area that gets fine reception, however when I commute I do go through some areas that get poor reception. Even sitting in my office I sometimes have issues with data going down or switching to the 1xRTT (2G) variety, then back to EVDO. I wonder if there are glitches in some of Sprint's towers, issues of too many people attacking the tower, or even issues with the Pre (although I doubt it) that can cause kind of random battery depletion levels? I do find when I'm at home and just attached to my home Wifi, that my phone tends to be more predictable, and lasts noticeably longer...
