Well it's an interesing debate you have started!! Well what I can say is
that whilst a thief should justifiably face the full wrath of the law for
their action, there is no condemnation for protecting your property from
intrusion. However, the fact that the owner of the tree is being tried is
contestable, in my opinion because it's like I have a barbed wire ober my
property and yu try to skip over it and you rip yourself in the process.
Surely I cannot be held liable given my protection.

As for the Provers scripture that you quoted, my understanding is that to
not despise a thief does not mean that there is no need to arrest. The thief
should be apprehended and the law must take its course but yours is to
forgive the thief given the motive. I must admit that it's quite difficult
to balance and have peace of mind but we have GRACE!!!
