I sounds to me as a good initiative.
If there is enough interest, the "product" gets released, otherwise it
does not.
In a sense, it incites the community to involve itself in that creation.
Otherwise, it's like if people will always be wanting to get something,
but will
never be ready to give for it.
If 5000 people give 5 €, the amount will be reached, the work will be
released as
free for the benefit of all.
Is it so much to ask among all the Debian or Debian-derived users ?
Does it mean freedom has no value ?
If you are not interested, you are free not to contribute, why discouraging
others to contribute ?
