The AR9170/CARL9170 firmware wasn't included for a while. Nor has the nouveau  
driver been included until recently. There are probably not that many  
drivers/firmware pieces missing. Free software ends up getting supported much  
better than the non-free stuff. It gets included in the mainline kernel  
and/or other major free driver projects.
