Well, I don't really see that they're "betraying the users". ABP tells you about it when you install it and allows you to disable it at any time. It's not like ABP is some anti-capitalist effort. The purpose of ABP is to get rid of annoying ads. The whitelist is for ads which are deemed to not be annoying/intrusive, so I don't see how doing that by default is any sort of betrayal.

Maybe the motive is personal gain, but I don't really care about motives so much as actions.
