It is not normally the driver that it problematic for wireless cards,
but the firmware used on the device. As I understand, the OpenBSD
developers did reverse-engineering a few years ago which freed a number
of WiFi drivers. According to Wikipedia, all of the Atheros wireless
cards have free firmware available:

As for mobile modems, I don't think they are supported in Trisquel. But
