It is not normally the driver that it problematic for wireless cards, but the firmware used on the device. As I understand, the OpenBSD developers did reverse-engineering a few years ago which freed a number of WiFi drivers. According to Wikipedia, all of the Atheros wireless cards have free firmware available: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_open_source_wireless_drivers As for mobile modems, I don't think they are supported in Trisquel.
