Yes...
I suspect that may be the main cause, also.
Since, I know of other people who have this same particular NVIDIA chip -
8400 GS - and, that don't have problems with running nouveau on their
graphics card. And, I know there's an ASUS equivalent of my card.
(The one I have, is of a brand, I had never heard of, called "Gainward".)
Je... I even remember that I could have bought the ASUS equivalent, when I
looked for a new compatible graphics card for my motherboard. But, because I
had a bad experience with my previous ASUS card (that overheated - and
damaged - my computer, when the safety mechanism of the fan didn't work),
because this "Gainward" card had a better price/quality relationship, and
because I thought the particular brand of a card was not important, I decided
for this one...
But, well... It seems like I was wrong, about the card manufacturer not being
important... And, so, I've learned the lesson of paying attention to that
also. :\
