Other than ViewTube (Greasemonkey script), UnPlug (Abrowser/Firefox  
extension), and VLC (video player you can sometimes paste links into to  
stream), which are the best solutions to video problems, there's also the  
YouTube All HTML5 extension, which gives you YouTube's native HTML5 player on  
all videos (YouTube doesn't allow you to use it on videos with ads by  
default; this extension fixes that).

And yes, disable Gnash ("Shockwave Flash"). It's useless. YouTube is the only  
major place it works at all and (as you have noticed) it doesn't work there  
too well now. (It does work, but only after you change the resolution.) Many  
video streaming sites actually have HTML5 fallback players that they don't  
bother trying to use unless Flash is unavailable, so Gnash is in fact a  
burden for the most part. I honestly hope the next Trisquel release doesn't  
include it by default.
