I just wish I could go back to using Microsoft Windows or Apple Mac OS. Since
they're both made by a private, for-profit corporation that holds total
control over the source code (and the software, and inheritantly also my
computer), they are superior to any GNU/Linux distribution out there,
FSF-endorsed or not.
I think it's a shame that some of you are just giving up on using Trisquel
GNU/Linux simply because of lack of active maintainers and planning. This is
probably the best FSF-endorsed GNU distribution I will ever come across.
Should we not instead be volunteering our free time to help Ruben maintain
this operating system? Maybe if we get about 5-10 volunteers donate 3-5 hours
a week, that will help Ruben, although he likely will need more volunteers
than just that.
We can't just give up with the free software movement. Even if our free
software goals may appear to be impossible to achieve, there will eventually
come that one day where free software is finally superior to proprietary
software.
And it's not just a matter of developing free software so it will be superior
to proprietary software one day. We also need to spread the word, get
everyone else to start using it as well. Even if it seems like people in
first world countries like the United States will never use it, I've heard
there are people in countries like Venezuela, who are using it as an
alternative to Microsoft software. In fact, Venezuela's government has even
banned the use of nonfree software on it's government computers.
