My experience with Windows and proprietary software in general is different  
than yours. I find gnu/linux much superior, and the few times I have  
re-installed it on my laptop (win 7, just out of curiousity) I've filled in  
the gaps with free software. Back when I used to run windows as my main os I  
found dealing with proprietary software very frustrating, and expensive.
