SUCCESS! A million thank yous for suggesting the GNOME shell, I found the  
option by my name- Oh wow this is so awesome! I really appreciate your help.  
My friend will be glad to know about this, I showed him the thread, he sent  
me to this site, so I'll be glad to tell him how well my computer works now;  
he had no idea, but he got me into Trisquel, which I couldn't have done  
without assistance.
