And actually why wouldn't you want to get the headers of threads you are not
participating in? Possibly because you draw analogy between newsgroup
messages and emails? If the "unwanted" messages were emails, then I would
have thought the same way. But they are just headers. Their existence in your
newsreader can be considered as aesthetic clutter, then again each thread
only consumes a single line in your newsreader's "messages" pane. It is in
tree structure. You expand only the threads you follow.
