If you save (e.g., on an external drive) the system configuration files (in  
/etc) you changed and the list of packages you installed (e.g., with the menu  
"File/Save Markings" of the "Synaptic Package Manager"), it should not be  
that time-consuming to configure a fresh install of Trisquel 8.

You should backup those files (as well as the user files) even if you do not  
go for a fresh install (e.g., if you try to fix the problems looking at the  
broken packages, removing them, etc.).  Just in case.
