My post may come too late for BarFly, but maybe other users with the same  
problem could find it helpful.

A temporary solution for this can be using a smartphone that supports  
USB-Tethering. Establish a mobile data connection on the phone and connect it  
to the laptop (over USB port). On the phone display, a menu should appear  
that lets you enable USB-Tethering. After that, a wired connection should be  
established inside Trisquel automatically.
