I think I understand this distinction very well. Blainer wrote: > The BoM makes it explicit that the High Priesthood was had > among the people of Lehi, and was passed down from father > to son. This High Priesthood allows a holder to officiate in > all the ordinances of the gospel, including those relating to the > order of Aaron. But this idea contradicts the Bible. Your statement might seem non-contradictory to someone who does not believe what the Bible teaches about the Melchisedec priesthood, but for those of us who know the Bible, the contradiction is obvious. The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ started the Melchisedec priesthood, and that this came after the law. The priesthood of Aaron came from the tribe of Levi, but the Melchisedec priesthood is of the tribe of Judah, through the line of David, and through Jesus Christ. Furthermore, the establishment of the Melchisedec priesthood causes a disannulling of the Aaronic priesthood. These points are all clearly spelled out in the Bible. If you are not familiar with the Biblical teaching on these points, let me know and I will be happy to walk you through the relevant passages step by step. The problem is that the Book of Mormon blatantly contradicts the Bible in talking about these people of Lehi practicing their religion as it describes it. The BOM claims these people were descended from Joseph, not from Levi (the Aaronic priesthood), nor from Judah (the Melchisedec priesthood). The BOM claims that these Israelites were instructed by God to go away from Jerusalem, the place where God had determined to set his name, to America, and to establish a temple and sacrifices over in this new land. This is completely contrary to the Hebrew Scriptures. Try suggesting that this was God to your Hebrew friends on the www.nazarene.net site and see what they say. They will surely scorn you with laughter for making such a suggestion, and blast you with Scriptures to show you the utter foolishness of the idea. Anyone who seriously believes the Bible and its commandments cannot accept the Book of Mormon on this particular subject. Peace be with you.
