The NT was primarily written so that we would know that Jesus was and is the messiah that was prophecied in the OT. If it had been written BEFORE the cross, it would have just been a rehash of the OT prophecies. The canon of scripture closed at the end of the Apostolic age. It contains the full gospel. Anyone who claims that yet more scripture is necessary does not believe that the NT canon is complete, and is all we need to receive and believe the gospel. I am not second guessing God by saying that He CANNOT reveal more, if He wills it, but I AM saying that 1) no additional revelation beyond the NT is necessary relative to the gospel message or salvation, 2) I do not believe that any revelation relevant to salvation or the gospel has ever been given, and 3) the LDS extrabiblical works are definitely not revelation. (I do think personal revelation to individuals regarding the truth of the Gospel occurs, otherwise most of us would not believe). From: "David Miller" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [TruthTalk] The Law Date: Thu, 26 Dec 2002 21:52:21 -0500 Perry wrote: > No more revelation is needed. How does this logically make sense, when the entire New Testament was written AFTER the death of Christ on the cross? Did the New Testament writings, or the many non-Biblical revelations attested to by the New Testament, in any way undermine the significance of Christ's death on the cross? I don't think so.
Perry wrote:There is a difference between adding TRUTH and adding LIES. The LDS extrabiblical works CLAIM to add additional truth to the gospel, but are nothing more than deceitful writings. Millions of people for thousands of years have understood the gospel and have been saved from reading the closed canon of the NT. Many still come to Christ daily without the need for additional revelation beyond the NT. Yet, somehow, the LDS believe that their heretical works are necessary to be Christians. Go figure.

And that gospel and canon testifies that revelation is the experience of
true believers in Jesus Christ.
I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit
when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for
he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he
speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he
shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you. (John 16:12-14)

Actually, they do add some things, which we have discussed here. For
example, these Scriptures claim many who have followed the Bible in its
present form have been brought under the power of Satan because of its
missing "plain and precious parts." They also add that without baptism, a
person cannot be saved. There are many dangerous teachings in the LDS
Scriptures.
I agree with your assessment that the Mormon added Scriptures are false, but
not with your idea that revelation is contrary to the gospel of Jesus
Christ. We have now received the living Word which is complementary to the
written Word.
Peace be with you.
