I wonder if anyone has done any scientific studies on the benefits, if any, of avoiding the unclean foods specified in the OT. It seems that all of them are scavengers. We do know that decayed foods, which scavengers eat, are full of free radicals, which have been associated with causing cancer. I don’t know for sure if God still considers them unclean or not, but there must have been good reason for Him to ban them in the first place.
I would be interested in what you can say about why God caused swine to have trichinosis.

Peter said that he never ate the creatures in the vision, and there is no record that he did. When the vision ended, he did not sit down and pig out on mice and swine. The scripture clearly shows that it was a vision to Peter to help him receive Cornelius.
The problem came with the influence of Judaism which has its own vocabulary aside from the scripture. Judaism designated people as "unclean" or "common." The Lord did not want Peter to practice Judaism, and call somebody "unclean" that God had made clean. Peter got the message when Cornelius came to the door.
God's people are not to eat unclean food. God's people are not to partake of unclean spirits. "Christians" want to do both through what they ingest physically and through what they celebrate that is Pagan in origin. God's people are supposed to be able to discern the clean from the unclean, and to have discernment of spirits. Clean and unclean meats pre-date Noah and the sweet "Law of Moses" which came from God.
Gentiles may eat unclean food. Israelites were permitted to sell swine to the Gentiles, who could do whatever they wished with them. I could go into the reasons why, and how God has a worm causing trichinosis that infects pigs; and then "Christians" will say that we have refrigerators now and, besides, we feed our pigs good feed. That is not the issue, really.
The real issue is this: "If you love me, keep the commandments." I love God. I fear God. I honor His Word.
If somebody wants to eat a mouse, let it not be me. Yuk.
