Michael D: Izzy, I agree with all of those scriptures (of course). But scripture must be lined up with scripture... Won't you agree? I will assume that you do. Which will mean we have to understand all of those in the light of all that the NT says about the law. Would you agree with that?
When God says don't put the law on the Gentiles, that's a very definitive statement. James emphasizes that this came from the Holy Ghost. Paul says that we are dead to the law... etc, etc. This tells me I have to reconcile the need to keep God's commandments with the fact that I am dead to the law, and the fact that the law was till Jesus came, and now is no longer for me.
How do I do that? Well, alll of the scriptures below, tell us to obey God's commandments, but none tell us about the law. Can you see that? If we say they speak about the law, then we are reading something into them that is not there. Can we agree on that?
Even if they were to mean the law, we could not determine that from the literal scriptures quoted, can you see that?
My point is that we have to understand commandments in the terms that the NT employs, and not the OT scriptures which command us to keep the commandments under the law. For those scriptures were written with regard to the law. And the Holy Ghost said that that is not for the Gentiles. (Acts 15)
What then are the commandments in the NT that we must obey? I Jn says it specifically: ...This is His commandment, that we believe in His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another as He (Jesus) gave us commandment....
Here John agrees with Paul, that what is required of us is: ... Faith which worketh by love... Gal 5.

Michael,
As you can see from the New Testament scriptures below, there is NO question that we are still to keep Gods commandments. The only question in my mind is this: Which commandments are still in effect, and which (if any) are no longer in effect? Obviously SOME are still in effect. Agreed? If so, which commandments do you think are still in effect?
