BlaineRB: I THINK we agree here, but MAYBE NOT No authoritative Mormon ever taught THAT we intend to be equal with God, or the trinity, or whatever you choose to call it. <snip> We believe we will be Gods in the sense that we will have access to all power that is God's, to continue in eternity--as the parable of the prodigal son suggests, the faithful son was given access to all that his father possessed. Judy: Blaine your system is an "adept/occult" one just
like the tower of Babel where everyone ascends to heaven step by step. The
following are the words of your founder Joseph Smith and are taken from a sermon
given at the funeral of Elder Follett just two months before his (Smith's)
assassination in Carthage, Illinois.
Joseph Smith says (as recorded in Times &
Seasons August 1, 1844):
"I am going to inquire after God, for I want you all to
know Him and to be familiar with Him ... I will go back before the beginning,
before the world was, to show you what kind of a being God is.
"God was once as we are now, an exalted
man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens ... I say, if you were to see
Him today, you would see Him like a man in form - like yourselves and all the
person, image and very form of man. I'm going to tell you how God came to
be God. We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity.
I will refute that idea, and take away the veil, so that you may see. It
is the first principle of the Gospel to know for certainty the character of God,
to know that we may converse with Him as one man converses with
another, and that he was one a man like
us, yea, that God Himself, the Father of us all, dwelt on an earth the
same as Jesus Christ did.. [....]
"Here then is eternal life - to know
the only wise and true God, and you have got to learn how to be gods
yourselves, and to be kings and priests, the same as all gods
before you, namely by going from one small degree to
another, and from a small capacity to a great one, from grace to grace,
from exaltation to exaltation, until you attain to the resurrection of the dead
and are able to dwell in the everlasting burnings, and to sit in glory, as do
those who sit enthroned in everlasting power"
Is the above what you believe Blaine? That is,
that you learn how to be gods by going from one small degree to another like ALL
gods (plural) before you? The adept system described above is foundational
to freemasonry as well as the ancient mystery religions but has nothing to do
with the one true God. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Blaine: Again, you are setting up little straw men to knock over.
This is the lie MANY anti Mormons perpetrate. Talk about
lies!! I wrote: Hold on Blaine, I didn't set up any straw
men; I read this thing about being gods in the
writings of Joseph Smith and I don't consider myself anti anything. I am just pro Jesus of Nazareth .... the living
Christ.
Judy: I need to clarify as I was convicted later about
the above statement. I am not anti ppl and this includes Mormon ppl but I
am anti anything that puts a stumbling block in the way of truth and this would
include Mormon doctrine and the Mormon structure.
**Can you honestly tell me Blaine that I have set up a
"straw man?"
Grace and Peace,
Judy
