Hmmm..... I'm not sure how to handle this. If I use the New
International Translation, it uses the term "ghost" in the relevant
scriptures, but the King James says "spirit." Let me say it this way:
Ghost and spirit are the same, but Jesus' spirit body is not the same as
a ghost or spirit. Is that confusing enough?
In Luke 24:36-43, resurrected Jesus zapped Himself into a group of
gathered disciples, they were scared because they thought He was a spirit
(King James) / ghost (NIV). He told them to touch Him, then He ate some
food. He asked them if a spirit / ghost has flesh and bones, to show that
He was there in body. The thing to understand is that the resurrected
body is a spiritual body unlike the natural bodies which we now have (1
Cor 15:44). That's hard to grasp intellectually, because, imho, it's very
counterintuitive, but, if we put together the previous scriptures, that's
what we get. I believe John 3:8 describes a spiritual body which comes
and goes, but, like the wind, us mortals cannot see it. Note that it says
we will all be like that.
In summary, we will be like Jesus; we will have immortal, spiritual
bodies that can fly about (transport, zap themselves, teleport,
whatever), appear, disappear, etc., but we will not be spirits. God the
Father is spirit; He doesn't have a body. God the Son has a spiritual
body. We will have spiritual bodies.
Alright, that's enough for now. There are other scriptures that tie
in with this, but I have no desire to spend a couple of hours looking for
them. Those who are interested might want to use a concordance to look up
"body," "spirit," etc.
