And why was it important for Mary to conceive of the Spirit if her child
was to take upon himself our fallen human nature, our actual human
existence laden with sin and guilt, our humanity diseased in mind and
soul in its estrangement or alienation from the Creator?.
Naturalgeneration from Adam on would have taken care of this.

vince:
Yes, natural generation did take care of that. That's why He was born of
a human mother, to get that fallen human nature. Jesus was conceived of
the Holy Spirit to get the God nature into his body. He was born of a
human mother to get the fallen human nature in His body. He was born 100%
human, and 100% God.

JT:
Where do you find this equation in scripture Vince? Jesus is not spoken
of anywhere as "having like passions as us". His brother James used
Elijah as an example of a man with a nature like ours (James 5:17,18) and
the people of Lystra thought their gods had come down in the likeness of
men when Paul healed a man who had never walked before
causing Paul and Barnabus tear their clothes and cry out "Men why are you
doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you" (Acts
14:15); whereas Jesus is never spoken of this way by anyone in all of
scripture. Looks like the pagans of Lystra had more respect for their
gods - at least they said "in the likeness of men" which actually is the
way Jesus did come according to Romans 8:3 and Philippians 2:7. Likeness
is resemblance or similitude.

vince:
He was tempted by satan, but didn't sin. He was in the world, but did not
participate in the world's sins. He had a fallen human nature, but never
gave in to temptation. Like us, He was up against the world, satan, and a
fallen nature, but, unlike us, He never sinned. He showed that, with His
help, we, too, can overcome.

JT:
He overcame in the same three areas the first Adam failed in which are
(a) Lust of the eyes, (b) Lust of the flesh, (c) the boastful pride of
life. But it's not necessary to be reprobate to be tested. The first
Adam had no sin but he fell. The second Adam had no sin either and he
passed the test. The other areas where he understands the feeling of our
infirmity are hunger, fatigue, rejection, sorrow, homelessness and when
he took upon himself the sin of the world at Calvary he experienced
firsthand the fruit of the curse for what must have been the longest
three hours ever.....

Grace and Peace,
Judy
