in spite of the fact that I support Bush,   I am not convinced that a Christian can serve as President or leader of any earthly nation.    Not that God would disapprove,  so much,  but that decisions have to be made that are not "Christian."   If I am one who believes in turning the other cheek, as President, I would be imposing my belief system on an entire nation (my own).   Death for a Christian is something not to be feared.  The death of a nation is of no biblical concern of a Christian.
For heaven’s sake, John, who BETTER to be President than a Christian? Perhaps you want Slick Willie again????????????  A Christian Pres does NOT have to impose his beliefs on the nation—only administer the laws justly as they were meant to be administered!!! And only make the best decision he can after prayer—the Lord answers the prayers of a righteous man.  If you don’t think so, just reflect back on our nation’s history and all the decisions made by godly men in high office that we are now so thankful for!  Get a grip, John, there is nothing to fear in leadership through godly men!  (What are you THINKING???)  Furthermore! If this nation dies so does all the good that Christians have been able to do through this nation for the past 200+ years. (In spite of what our Canadian friends think.)
I mean, look at the struggle Bonhoffer went thru dealing with his faith and the conviction that Hitler must die.  The answers that Lance gave are not the answers of any of the political liberals in our country.   But they are (for the most part) answers from a Christian conviction.
Bonhoeffer’s mistake was in thinking that God would want an individual to take up arms apart from under his government’s authority as an armed militia. Going out by yourself just makes you a murderer.  I applaud his good intentions, but not his methods. (My opinion only!)

The quotes presented by Bill present an early church that did not consider itself to be involved in the political circumstance of the day.   Should we?
If the early church had had the freedom to vote, don’t you think they would have considered it their responsibility under God to do so????  Izzy

In fact, JudyT 's response was a faith response as well.    We keep coming back to that kind of response.

And how much time do we have to spend on politics and the secular struggle as opposed to finding our nitch in the work of sharing the gospel to a dying world?
