Judy, welcome back. Not only does the scripture separate spirit and soul, but while you were gone the question arose as to whether or not there are two "flavors" of salvation...a salvation of the spirit, based on faith, which leads to eternal life, and a salvation of the soul, based on works, which leads to position in the millenial period. This idea is expounded in "Salvation of the Soul" by Arlen Chitwood (available for download from www.lampbroadcast.com), and appears to be supported scripturally. What do you think the significance of salvation of the soul, if any, is? If there is such a thing, then it would definitely resolve the tension between the "salvation by faith" and the "salvation by works" (or "faith + works") camps.

Hello again TT'ers,
After two weeks of "Do your ears hang low" and a camping trip with two of
the grandchildren, I looked in the archives to see if there was any
interesting adult type communication going on at TT and this question got
my attention because not only is it a good one and IMO is important to
our eternal destiny.

We know that the soul and spirit can be divided because Hebrews 4:12
tells us that they can be divided by the Word of God which reveals the
thoughts and intents of the heart. What is "self" exactly? Is it the
physical body? Could we shoot ourselves and be done with it? Is it the
soul? Animals have a soul but they can not reason and they are led by
instinct and when they die they go back to the dust. Only man was
originally created in the image of God (who is Spirit) and when he dies
the hope is that he returns to the Father of Spirits - the one who
created him. judyt

If I ever get the hang of that, I got to work on lovin' my enemy, and my neighbor, and, well, you get the idea. It may be a long time before I get to cipherin' on spirit/soul. Terry

Your mental capacity? Your sense of humor? Don’t animals have souls? (I think so!) Do they have a spirit? Which one do you believe lives in heaven after your body dies—one or both? Izzy
