Judy, hope your ears are hanging correctly.  Great thoughts—I never thought about the word saying it divides the soul and spirit! Why would it want to do that???????? Izzy

Hello again TT'ers,

After two weeks of "Do your ears hang low" and a camping trip with two of the grandchildren, I looked in the archives to see if there was any interesting adult type communication going on at TT and this question got my attention because not only is it a good one and IMO is important to our eternal destiny.

We know that the soul and spirit can be divided because Hebrews 4:12 tells us that they can be divided by the Word of God which reveals the thoughts and intents of the heart.  What is "self" exactly?  Is it the physical body? Could we shoot ourselves and be done with it?  Is it the soul? Animals have a soul but they can not reason and they are led by instinct and when they die they go back to the dust.  Only man was originally created in the image of God (who is Spirit) and when he dies the hope is that he returns to the Father of Spirits - the one who created him.  judyt

I don't give stuff like that much thought Iz.  Guess I'll find out when I get there. For now, I'm still working on the important stuff, like dying to self.  If I ever get the hang of that, I got to work on lovin' my enemy, and my neighbor, and, well, you get the idea.  It may be a long time before I get to cipherin' on spirit/soul.

So can you, or DaveH, or anyone define exactly what is the difference between your soul and your spirit? Is your personality your soul? Does it go to heaven? Your mental capacity? Your sense of humor? Don’t animals have souls? (I think so!) Do they have a spirit? Which one do you believe lives in heaven after your body dies—one or both? Izzy
