DaveH, why do you think body + spirit = soul?

DAVEH: It is strictly based on my LDS background. I did not know that some Christians have a similar belief though, and have found it very interesting.

The scripture speaks as though they are three separate things: 1 Thessalonians 5:23. Also see Hebrews 4:12 which refers to the dividing of the soul and the spirit. Also, Peter refers to the salvation of the soul.

DAVEH: I'm not sure this is a good analogy, but sodium by itself is quite different than chloride, neither of which you would want to ingest. Add the two together and you get a totally different substance, that becomes a necessary part of our nourishment. Without salt, human life as we know it would cease to exist.

As for salvation of the soul, it is my belief that anybody's salvation is dependent upon the resurrection of our bodies. Until our spirits are reunited with our physical bodies of flesh and bone (as was Jesus), we cannot achieve full salvation. Until then, we only have the promise of salvation.
