jt: Scripture teaches us that "God is a Spirit" John 4:24 - so how was Adam made in His Image aside from being created a spiritual being?
God put His spirit in him

God breathed into Adam the breath of life and he became a living (or quickened) soul (Genesis 2:7).

jt: In Job we learn "There is a spirit in man and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding" (Job 32:8)

Laura: I have to dash out but here is a verse that I use:
4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 2 Corinthians 4:4

jt: The god of this age is also a spirit. God is a spirit, man is a spirit, satan is a spirit and we are all able to communicate in this dimension.  There is a pathway from the human spirit to the soul and there are two different sources from which we as humans are able to receive spiritual understanding.  During His earthly ministry Jesus said He only spoke what He first heard from the Father (John 14:10).  The religious leaders however were getting their information for another source because Jesus told them they were of their father the devil who is a liar and the father of it (John 8:44).

Laura: I believe the reason they are blinded is because they are unsaved and don't have the HS residing within them.  My opinion is that the HS spirit ministers from without before we are saved and from within after salvation.

Before the Comforter was sent on the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit did not indwell men (He anointed them outwardly) but no man had Him residing within.  He was with them in the person of Christ but He was not in them.  During His earthly ministry Jesus said  "No man knows the Father" (Matthew 11:27).  It was Jesus who made the way for us to know the Father after the veil in the temple was rent but this was not until Calvary.  Job and David were before this and there are more references in both Old and New Testaments.

David believed the same when under great duress he wrote  "Into thine hand I commit my Spirit" (Psalm 31:5)
Jesus on the cross right before giving up the ghost cried "Father into thy hands I commend my spirit" (Luke 23:46)
Stephen while being stoned cried "Lord Jesus receive my spirit" (Acts 7:59)
