I never have seen Jesus as ascetic "G" -
Actually I understand asceticism to be what the RC religious orders are about but Jesus did tell us to 'deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him' - so what exactly is SELF?

Some interpret this as our old sinful selves  but Jesus (who was separate from both sin and sinners during His earthly ministry) said "I can of my own SELF do nothing (John 5:30), and He then went on to say that He only did what he first saw the Father doing"

So how does one lay aside SELF as JC commanded?
(I know you never answer a question and don't really expect to receive a response to this one but thought it was worth a try).  jt
