It is only ascetic in that we are to die to SELF (flesh, sin, selfishness, etc.); not die to the joys of a godly life by any means.  We can only enjoy God’s blessings fully when we are walking in His Spirit, which we cannot do when we are walking in the flesh.    Izzy

Guys, can I interject? We are to deny self -- we are to throw off the lustful shackles of the world. We are to dance and rejoice in YHVH. A Wedding is a celebration of upcoming life! We are to rejoice for the new husband and wife because we know what *JOY* they will be receive in their newfound marital bliss!!

I do not see how the NT tells us to be ascetic. This concept is foreign to me. Life is a gift from GOD to be enjoyed.

this proves the point--such zeal for asceticism totally eclipses the Gospel

If this is true, can you explain how that happens, and who makes that decision?

T, Do you think JC is into asceticism, as much partying as he did?

E.g., in an over-arching biblical theology, place Jn 10:10 fairly, squarely in the mainstream of NT descriptive thought

Example, as far as Izzy's concerned, denying one's self (e.g.) a week of wedding partying in Cana and renouncing asceticism to follow JC are identical NT theologies (..think about it:

We are followers.  Followers are commanded to deny self.  We are not told to party and the Bible does not portray Jesus as a party animal.
