Slade and DaveH, I didn’t mean to say that the physical is a more important factor than the physical; quite the opposite.  But I was talking only about the physical aspect of the cleanliness commandments.  See my post from late last night. Izzy

Why is the symbolism greater than the physical? To follow this logic, then the Statue of Liberty (the “symbol” of liberty) is far more important than the liberty itself. Surely you don’t think this is true!!?

I was referring to physical cleanliness, but the symbolism is also a big factor. Izzy

DAVEH:  I had thought it was a bigger factor than physical cleanliness.  But, I suppose staying clean might have been a lot harder then than now!
