think so. The Magi come to Jerusalem (a city pregnant with Messianic fervor and anticipation) and ask where the King of the Jews is to be born. The Sages say, "In Beit Lechem..." and the Magi head south. Why didn't the Sages go as well? Because they expected the Messiah to be revealed in the City of the King (Jerusalem) on Passover and they though the passage regarding Beit Lechem was not to be taken literally (like, perhaps, the passage helps connect Messiah as the Son of David).
In spite of the belief that the Messiah would be Divine, the Jewish leadership of the times did not accept that Jesus was this Christ. Why? Did they expect this ruler to be born or more noble stock or ????
