Hey Lance.
I am not saying Christian doctrine was taken from
ancient Greek philosophy.
Some things are just understood because we
have it in ourselves to know what is truth.
| Rom 1:20 | For the invisible things of
him from the creation of the world are clearly seen,
being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power
and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: |
Don't misunderstand me, I am not saying that ALL
philosphers have the right understanding concerning what is true, Plato being
one of them, but you have to admit that there is a speck of truth in some of
the things they say. Just because some of what Plato or other
philosphers say doen't line up with Christian doctrine, doesn't mean
everything they say is wrong. You can say that about any great thinker
or scientist.
We have to be rooted and grounded in Him and
understand where truth comes from.
| Col
2:7 | Rooted
and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught,
abounding therein with thanksgiving. |
Our foundation should be built upon Him.
| Col
2:8 | Beware
lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit,
after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world,
and not after Christ.
Philosophy can spoil a man's foundation because
it leaves out Christ. That doesn't mean that philosophy
is bad, but when it leaves out Christ, it becomes meaningless because the
focus is just on ideas, concepts and science.
