Jonathan:  Yes DaveH.  You are correct.  Hence the cultic beliefs of some on
this forum.

I (no doubt in Jonathan's eyes one with "cultic beliefs") submit the following (penned by one who was present at Nicea)
"Gregory Nazianzen, A.D. 382, in a letter to Procopius: "I am determined to avoid every assembly of bishops. I have never seen a single instance in which a synod did any good. Strife and ambition dominate them to an incredible degree.  From councils and synods I will keep myself at a distance, for I have experienced that most of them, to speak with moderation, are not worth much. I will not sit in the seat of synods, while geese and cranes confused wrangle. Discord is there, and shameful things, hidden before, are gathered into one meeting place of rivals."

Also scenes of strife and even murder in connection with ancient ecclesiastical councils were not uncommon ... Cultic beliefs??? The above doesn't sound too much like "It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us" does it? - More like holding the tail of the lizard along with "biting and devouring of one another" as described in Galatians 5:15.

DAVEH:  Isn't the Nicene Creed the glue that holds Protestantism
together?  Once one departs that path, do they not achieve cult status?

David: Therefore, creeds are immature philosophical steps on the path to truth.
They do not represent the actual apprehension of truth, but only the
hopeful expectation of what might be found once that truth is fully apprehended.
We should not fear deviating from creeds.
