DAVEH: Most of the early members of the LDS Church were Protestants,
so they did have a Protestant flavor, so to speak. But we don't view that
as being the same as the Church being Protestant. We weren't
protesting the RCC folks as such.
[Debbie] I was always taught at home that we weren't
Protestants either. I have a Mennonite heritage, and my ancestors, who
were the soul of meekness and mildness and never protested against
anybody, were persecuted plenty by both sides; I think it's the
Heidelberg Catechism that refers to Anabaptists as "detestable". I hang out with
Reformed people (descendants of the architects of the Heidelberg) and we joke
about it.
