BLAINE:  David said he had been "baptized" a member.  I think he was just 
attending a class, and they tried to get him to commit to becoming a 
full-fledged member.  That would have been a real trophy for the minister if he 
had succeeded in getting Joseph Smith to recant, huh?

 
  
When your name is on the roll you are a member. 
The troubling part is this was in 1828 long after the first vision command to 
join none!

reproved by a Baptist minister, whose church JS had been attending with his 
sister. JS was not baptised as I recall, he just had his name put on the rolls 
by the minister, then had it taken off again later on.
