Hi Caroline,
My first question is how do you know
Terah was 70yrs old when Abram was born? Gen 11:26 tells us that Terah was
70yrs old when he began having children and that he had three sons.
Scripture does not reveal to us which son was born first, the name of
Terah's wife, or how old Terah was at the time each of his sons was
born.
Caroline:
I believe scripture is saying Terah was 70 by the
time he had three sons.
If Abram is the oldest, he could have been born
when Terah was younger than 70.
jt: This may be your belief Caroline,
but there is no foundation in scripture for such an assumption. Abraham was
86 when he had Ishmael and 100yrs old when the child of Promise appeared.
Abram's father Terah may have married late, he may have lost children, or he may
have had several wives; we don't know for sure what the details are. However,
there is one thing we can know for sure and that is - "ALL scripture is
given by inspiration of God" because "Holy men spake as they were moved by the
Holy Spirit" which Spirit being the third member of the Godhead is also
known as the Spirit of Truth and the Spirit of Christ. So the Spirit who
inspired the writing of Genesis 11 & 12 is the same Spirit who filled
Stephen as he spoke in Acts 7:4 and the Spirit who brought the
details of this encounter back to Luke's remembrance.
jt: Would
I be accurate in saying that you do see God's Word and scripture as one and the
same but that you have conferred this title on Jesus in the
flesh?
Caroline: The Word
(logos) is the Second Person of the Trinity. John wrote that in the beginning
was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. And the Word became
flesh and dwelt among us. The bible never refers to itself
as the Word. It is either scriptures or writings. So whenever I read Word
in my bible, I understand that to mean Christ Jesus.
jt: Then how would you interpret the
following Caroline:
"The sower sows the Word" (Mark 4:14)
What is this Word and who is the Sower?
Jesus said "My Word hath no place in
you" (John 8:37) so here He separates his Word from His person.
"The Word of God grew and multiplied"
Acts 12:24 - Jesus is at the RH of the Father in Heaven so what is growing and
multiplying here?
"Receive with meekness the engrafted
Word" (James 1:21)
"Be ye doers of the Word and not
hearers only deceiving your own selves (James 1:22)
jt: Is the "community thing"
same to you as "working out your own salvation with fear and trembling?" and by
the above are you saying that you "speak to Him" through community?
Caroline: You can
think of community as church where church is a gathering of Christians. We work
out our salvation with fear and trembling by ourselves and in church with the
help of the Holy Spirit. We commune with God by ourselves and in church by
prayer, bible reading, worship etc. God speaks to us when we worship, pray, read
the bible, through other people and circumstances etc. He speaks to us
individually and He speaks to the group.
Thank you for taking the time to
respond Caroline
also for communicating in kindness,
this is much appreciated,
Grace and Peace,
judyt
