that which I deem central and, ask for as direct a response if you feel
comfortable giving one publicly. Should you wish to contact me
privately, I'd honour that privacy. IFF Joseph Smith was, in reality, a
false prophet then, would your whole belief structure collapse?
DAVEH: Hmmmmm........I don't think so, but I'm not sure how my beliefs
would change.
Drawing from James 1, perhaps not
solely but at least centrally, does your subjective encounter override
even the possibility of Joseph Smith being a false prophet?
DAVEH: I think so, but much of what he brought forth certainly
influences my perspective.
If this is too convoluted (it even
sounds so to me) then, restate it in your own words and provide me with
an answer.
thanks,
Lance

Re: [TruthTalk] To the Mormons: public/participating &
private/watching on TT
DAVEH: I'm not quite sure who you were addressing Lance, but it seems
like you are speaking to the Mormon boys. I think you've done a
reasonable job of assessing my position. It is pretty obvious that K
& P have no interest in carrying on a meaningful religious
discussion with me, so I feel no need to engage them in the battle they
seem to disparately need.
I suppose there is a zoo-like atmosphere here. And as an
outsider, it is certainly interesting to view the home life of real
Christians, so to speak. One thing I've realized is that if I
were ever to leave Mormonism, TT Christianity is the last place I'd
seek refuge. In a perverse way, it's a fun place to visit, but not a
place I'd want to make camp.
As for the way forward from here, Lance.....I'm quite content
gleaning the occasional gem that pops up now and then. I can't look to
any religious reasonable discussions from some TTers, but there are
certainly others such as yourself who are willing to answer questions
now and then. That will satisfy my main needs.

I recently critiqued both Kevin
and Perry for that which I deemed "conduct unbecoming..". I stand by
what I said.
Further to this, those of you
who have read both (K/P) over time can discern their distinctive
styles. I trust y'all possess the maturity read 'through' to their
meaning.
Gentlemen, I should like to ask
you to say just where the conversation might go from here as to the
Mormon/Evangelical dialogue. You, the assembled participants and
onlookers, know that both Kevin and Perry believe your eternal destiny
to be at risk should you continue to believe as you do. Not unlike the
Catholic/Evangelical dialogue you see yourselves as the 'possessors' of
THE fuller revelation and thus seek to evangelize us.
We, having asked the Spirit of
God, conclude that Joseph Smith is a false prophet. Solipsism believes
'I am the only mind that exists'. A variation on this would lead one to
conclude that: IFF Joseph Smith WAS a false prophet then, the whole
system (The Mormon belief system) collapses. Do you agree?
Now, if each of you has come to
the following conclusion:I've followed the James 1 invocation and, God
has told me that Joseph Smith IS God's Prophet and, my experience
confirms it THEN, no matter what Kevin, Perry or a host of others might
say I cannot, I shall not, I must not deny THE TRUTH; have we not truly
come to an impasse?
Do you remain to view the
animals in the zoo? (us) Is there, indeed, IYO, a way forward? I'd like
to engage you so tell me and the others just how we might do so,
please.
