I don't see how you got "trickery" out of this passage. It says that they "did the same."
A miracle worker verse a magician, DM. That is what you have here. "Same" obviously means "the same in appearance."
We KNOW that the source of the sign was totally different, do we not? I do. Satan is no match
for God and when we have a dual between God and the dark side, God always wins and wins big. We,
therefore, conclude that the one is a true sign or miracle and the other is only an illusion. JD wrote: > As far a Revelation -- the apocalyptic is > not about the apocalyptic. Huh? What is that suppose to mean? Symbolism present and truth revealed .. two very different things. His power was destroyed at the cross. First of all, I'm not denying that Satan is a deceiver and uses trickery. The question is whether that is all he is. Does he actually have any power? You think the lack of the word "dunamis" in this passage means that he does not. Do you then accept that if another passage ascribes dunamis to him, that he does have power?
I make no such argument. 2 Thessalonians 2:9 (9) Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power [dunamis] and signs and lying wonders,
I think the better reading is this: ...power and signs and wonders of falsehood. And this word
"falsehood" is a Greek word with the meaning "not what it appears to be." Exegetically, then, this passage is saying what I am saying. In fact, it is this passage that presented this thought to
me.
See Rev. 13:2 also about the dunamis of the dragon.See the above. The dunamis of the dragon is not what it appears to be. Such would not be a prophet of any kind. A fraud is not the same thing as a false prophet. Balaam is an example of a false prophet who was not a fraud.
He is a false prophet if he claims to be prophet and is not. That is how I use the word. Peace be with you.
