Great harm has been done through the assimilation of this teaching (Mt 24 & 1 Thess) into the lives of unwitting christians and unwitting non-christians. It reflects ultra-poor hermeneutics. But then, there's nothing new in that.

The above teaching reflects one more area where no amount of diplomatic engagement would bring about one centimeter of theological movement. Therefore, I shan't engage on this. Ya won't be cast into 'outer darkness' for believing it, Dean.

Well said, Dean.

'TRIBULATION PERIOD'? Please tell me that you're not into that 'rapture hokum' ala LaHaye/Jenkins.

cd: Yes I certainly  believe in the rapture-a time when the Lord will gather his people (1 Thess.4:13-17).  Actually the word Rapture is not in the Bible but being "caught up" is interpretation in the Greek as "rapte" (I think-JD is this true?) which means "seized up" or snatched up with force, but I do not agree with the time that Tim Lahaye places (pre-tribulation) the rapture because of the marriage supper of the lamb isn,t until Rev..19:9 which isn't until much later into the tribulation period. How do you view 1 Thess.4:13-17 as meaning?

The law of MAN(?)ogamy? It's always been in place. The problem was, is and, will be the law of WOMANogamy? Chauvinism, sexism and the like have prevailed, do prevail and, sadly, will prevail amongst so-called 'believers' of all stripes.

cd: I am of the belief that it will prevail for the term of the "times of the gentiles"-then they will need us for survival (Tribulation period)and then calm down as stop saying:" I am women hear me roar ! ". To be fair polygamy also was a failure-consider the problems in the bible that arose from that type of union. David newborn son dies,he loses his kingdom,Absalom dies, daughter is raped by other son. Joseph brothers from other mothers kidnap him sell him as slave. Ishmael and Isaac mothers clash-Ismael/mother is driven into wilderness. Solomon falls into sin lead by Egyptian women and builds temples to other Gods which are not torn down for generations later and most likely went to hell. Esau is outcast by his father and cannot find a place for repentance due to his multi-wives (daughters of Ishmael)....etc...etc... If the Mormons would be honest they would give similar records from SLC.
