cd:I agree that upon belief in Christ and confession to repentance makes one just-but that does not give us the right to break even one of the commandments (ie the Law). We are established upon Christs righteousness and then justified by our deeds or as the Bible says "every man will be judged by their works"
Pete responds: I am not sure you understand the significance of what Christ did and the purpose of the Law. If I assume wrong, forgive me. Our faith in Christ fulfills the atonement necessary to walk with God and we then are able to fellowship with God in the Spirit. The Law was (past tense) our schoolmaster bringing us to Christ. After Christ came, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. We are no longer under the Law. We walk with God's Spirit in us which becomes our guide as the Law was a guide for the people under the old covenant. The Law showed us our transgressions and was leading us to Christ. I don't claim to understand all of what God has done for us, but I know that my walk in Christ has shown me that doing good works does nothing towards salvation. Being obedient to His Spirit brings growth and peace. I agree that we will be judged according to our works. cd: Are you saying that one cannot then become unrighteous? Does faith alone keep us? Pete responds: We can do unrighteous acts if we choose to because we live in the flesh. The consequence of walking according to the deeds of the flesh is sin. Walking in the flesh will stifle a Christian's growth because God's Spirit cannot move in a believer's life if a person willingly sins. The atonement by the blood of Jesus keeps us alive to Christ. Rejection of the atonement will separate you permanently from God. The bottom line is that a person who walks in the spirit will not choose to walk in the flesh (according to Galatians) cd: Aren't the 11 commandments tied to love of God and love of neighbor? No where are we told to keep 612 commandments but we are told to keep the moral law.1 Jn 2:4 The one who says, " I have come to know Him," and does not keep the commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. If I have faith in Christ then I will accept his words and seek to live by those words. Pete responds: AMEN. ---------- "Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer every man."
