Have you STOPPED SINNING?
Page 67 of the LDS Church manual Gospel Fundamentals insists, "Our Father in heaven does not sin, and He does not allow people who sin to live with Him. To live with Him, we must repent of our sins. To repent means to feel sorry for our sins and stop doing them."
....even though forgiveness is so abundantly promised, there is no promise nor indication of forgiveness to any soul who does not totally repent...We can hardly be too forceful in reminding people that they cannot sin and be forgiven and then sin again and again and expect forgiveness" (The Miracle of Forgiveness, p. 353, 360).
And now, verily I say unto you, I, the Lord, will not lay any sin to your charge; go your ways and sin no more; but unto that soul who sinneth shall the former sins return, saith the Lord your God. (D&C 82:7)
And the brother of Jared repented of the evil which he had done, and did call upon the name of the Lord for his brethren who were with him. And the Lord said unto him: I will forgive thee and thy brethren of their sins; but thou shalt not sin any more, for ye shall remember that my Spirit will not always strive with man; wherefore, if ye will sin until ye are fully ripe ye shall be cut off from the presence of the Lord. OVERCOME IN THIS LIFE
12th President Spencer W. Kimball said, "Christ became perfect through overcoming. Only as we overcome shall we become perfect and move toward godhood. As I have indicated previously, the time to do this is now, in mortality" (The Miracle of Forgiveness, p.210)
"the time to act is now, in this mortal life. One cannot with impunity delay his compliance with God's commandments" (Miracle, p.10).
ACHIEVABLE GOAL have you Triumphed?
"This progress toward eternal life is a matter of achieving perfection. Living all the commandments guarantees total forgiveness of sins and assures one of exaltation through that perfection which comes by complying with the formula the Lord gave us. In his Sermon on the Mount he made the command to all men: 'Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.' (Matt. 5:48) Being perfect means to triumph over sin. This is a mandate from the Lord. He is just and wise and kind. He would never require anything from his children which was not for their benefit and which was not attainable. Perfection therefore is an achievable goal." (Spencer Kimball, Life and Teachings of Jesus and His Apostles, p. 386).
REPENTING OF SOME SINS NOT COMPLETE
Page 212 of The Miracle of Forgiveness reads, " incomplete repentance never brought complete forgiveness" (12th President Spencer W. Kimball, The Miracle of Forgiveness, p.212).
TRYING IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH
"Trying is not sufficient. Nor is repentance complete when one merely tries to abandon sin" (Miracle, p.164).
NO EXCUSES, how are you doing? Are you a 'god' yet?

DAVEH: Perhaps you have overlooked the Lord's comment in Jn 14:1......
If you ye love me, keep my commandments.
.......which to me indicates that loving God implies becoming sinless. No Terry, I don't think you overlooked it, but rather I suspect you have a much different understanding about it than me. The problem you indicate above is only relative to this mortal life. From my perspective, mortality is a training ground (so to speak) for our eternal destiny. Though it may not be possible for some to become perfect in this life, I don't see any restriction for perfection to be achieved in the next life. The exception being our past sins preventing us from being spotless. That's why we need to be cleansed by the blood of Christ.
