I think that this compatibilty layer sounds like a real nightmare to test..
I wouldn't want to run a 2.2 app on some sort of funky layer like that when
I could just leave them running on the old platform.  I think that the
effort spent on this would be better spent on docs or coding the actual
functionality.  Although as an execise, it does sound like fun!

I would probably do the same, especially if there was performance issues 
with the compatibilty layer.  The complayer might be useful for moving to 
the latest core or learning how to use it though.
