Isn't one of the goals of Apache's Avalon project to
make it easy to configure and bundle servers, and
allow cooperation between the servers?
It's early for Avalon, but interest seems to be
perking up. Some interest in using it from other
projects would motivate progress on it.
Avalon looks like a great idea.
