Gee. Good suggestion. :-) I never thought of that! :-)

No really, a bit of history (I'm not sure if all this should be public, but
in reality it probably should be just for history sake. correct me if i'm
wrong with anything.):

Myself and others have been acting behind the scenes with Justin for MONTHS
now trying to get him to change the license to either BSD or MPL. I even
offered to pay him out of my own pocket to purchase a BSD license from him
(Collab.Net has also offered).

At his request, we started to work with him on a new license (the SPL) until
we realized (recently) that the ASF will never agree to his new license
because of the legal issues and time involved with a new license. The board
simply doesn't have the time to play license games it isn't interested in
(since people of the ASF are already pretty convinced of the "right" license
for things, helping make up a new one is a very low priority). I agree with
this.

At this point, Justin has been given a list of licenses that the ASF will
agree to: MPL 1.1 or BSD/ASF and a final ultimatum to choose one quickly or
we (Collab.Net) would pay someone to clean room re-implement things from
scratch. His last email to me was that he choose the MPL with minor changes
to include warranty issues related to Canadian Laws (that is fine) and a
condition for making it happen (keep reading).

I also pointed out the fact that he would be limiting himself greatly with
that license (ie: I would love to see WM hosted on jakarta.apache.org and I
think it could happen).

Justin also stated a condition to me for choosing the MPL was that he would
only do it if I get altavista.com to use WM. I told him that I would be more
than happy to help him (I would do it anyway since it would be a good chance
to get AV.com to also use Turbine), but I wouldn't make it a condition of
the license change since I can't control what AV.com uses and it wasn't
really fair to me or you guys.

We will see what happens now. I'm waiting for a response from him.
