Wonderful that the icon search has gained momentum. It seems were getting nearer. After considering the more graphical approach seems good. The image gifs are color-table consuming and do not scale well. 2.gif seems to me better than 3.gif beacuse its slimmer. To avoid a saw impression, it may be good to have the blades end up touching the imaginary outer circle. I liked the semi transparent effect in the 1.gif and 3.gif wheels. We still neet to have a look on what Rafal can provide. IMHO it should not be an animated gif. IMHO for the colors we should keep in line with the Apache colorscheme, e.g. out of order rainbow colors (skipping the green) and the feather. Take a look at the powered by Apache logos in http://www.apache.org and http://www.apache.org/httpd.html. Maybe have the turbine blades or the letters in the apache colors? A 2 colour logo could also be fine. Probably its good to keep the logo simple, but pep up the web design with some additional features like (Rafal is this sensible? can you take it up? see the idea I had in my original mockup): * a jetstream exiting behind the logo (soft orange) with a possible title (can be done with a table cell background image - wich is spread to the whole cell width) * allow placing somewhere the "Java Apache Project" or "The Apache Group"- and feather logo (to provide the context) - maybe at the far right - or even place the feather inside the turbine wheel (wow!) :-I It would be an advantage to have the logo in a vectorized form, to have the chance to find a good size for the final page, from there on it can be frozen in a gif (WMF or EPS are good choices). :-) Christoph > :) > I'm glad people like the design (especially since I'm a programmer > pretending to be an artist) watch that the 'r' does not touch the 'b' it makes a cluttered look. > > > 3, with color, would be great - 2 is good too, but the turbine will only be > > one color in that case, where in all the others it could be two color. > > > > I REALLY like this design - VERY simple, GREAT font - as I said: just add > > color and it's a winner! > > Jon S. likes blue and green (so do I), so I'll try experimenting with some > colour treatments soon.
