Hey all,
I'm going to try to start sending these out every week or so so that
newbie's can be simply pointed at this email and all questions will become
obvious. If I forget one week to do it, send me a private email reminder or
pick up the ball and do it yourself. :-)
The current status/direction is:
We are still in a big state of flux. The TDK is partially complete and the
big directory restructure/cvs re-import is complete. What is missing is more
functionality in the TDK, documentation needs to be re-done, screens such as
the Login, Logout, etc need to be added somewhere so that people can use the
thing. I suspect that it should go into the TDK.
I don't think that Turbine itself should be distributed any longer. I think
it should be the TDK that gets distributed.
The database mapping stuff will be tested today and tomorrow by me. I will
post lots of comments on it i'm sure. I think that Torque is the right
direction for doing all of the autogeneration of stuff. Whatever Leon has
done that is missing from Torque should be integrated into Torque and we
should remove all the stuff that is in the tools directory that duplicates
Torque functionality.
WebMacro licensing is still a big issue. There is some stuff going on behind
the scenes I can't talk about yet, but it is exciting, so keep your eyes
peeled for announcements sometime next week. I *promise* a resolution next
week.
I apologize if you are new to Turbine you have just joined this project
while things are in a flux. The core of Turbine is quite complete and
stable, it is the lack of documentation and examples that is making things
difficult for newbies. We are also in the process of moving from a default
of ECS style way of doing things to a WebMacro style. This is the right way
to do development and I suggest that you go that route.
Volunteers for all of this is most appreciated. I'm now getting back on the
ball for doing Scarab development, so my participation here will be
increased again starting next week.
